⁶ He then summoned Solomon, his son, and he charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel. ⁷ David said to Solomon, “My son, I wanted to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, ⁸ but the word of the Lord came to me saying, ‘Because you have shed so much blood and you have waged many wars, you will not build a house for my name because you have shed too much blood upon the earth before me.
